Insurance rates for school employees to remain the same in 2019
Recently, the State and Public School Life and Health Insurance Board voted to keep insurance rates for school employees the same in 2019. This is the second year in a row that rates have not increased.
Due to larger reserves on the school employee side, the Board also voted to lower deductibles and noted that an increase in the school employee plans isn’t expected until at least 2021. What great news for our public school employees who have ARBenefits!
Roughly 45,000 school employees are covered through ARBenefits. Employees have the choice of three different plans: (1) Premium, (2) Classic and (3) Basic. The deductible on the Premium plan will be lowered to $750 (individual) and $1,500 (family) beginning January 1, 2019. The deductible on the Classic plan will be lowered to $1,750 (individual) and $2,750 (family) while the deductible on the Basic plan will drop to $4,000 (individual) and $8,000 (family).
